Located within the State of Alabama, Decatur lies within both Morgan and Limestone counties. Also known as The River City, it is situated up in Northern Alabama, on the banks of Wheeler Lake, along the Tennessee River. In 2010, the population here was estimated at 55 683 inhabitants.
In the 1810’s, Decatur was actually known as Rhodes Ferry Landing, named as such for Dr. Henry W. Rhodes. In 1821 however, the city became incorporated as Decatur, named after Stephen Decatur who was murdered in a duel in 1820.
